Slangua ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use the Slangua website (slangua.com) and the Slangua mobile app.

By using our website or app, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.

2. Information We Collect

Website: Contact and Waitlist Information

When you sign up for our waitlist or contact us, we collect your email address. This is used to send you updates about Slangua and to respond to your inquiries.

Website: Analytics and Cookies

With your consent, we use Google Analytics to collect anonymous usage data on our website, including pages visited, time spent on pages, general location (country/city level), and device and browser type. See Section 8 for details on cookies.

Mobile App: Usage Data

When you use the Slangua app, we may collect information about how you interact with the app, such as features used and general usage patterns. If product analytics are enabled (currently via PostHog), anonymized usage data may be collected to help us understand how the app is used and improve it.

Mobile App: Text Submitted for Translation and Lookup

When you type or paste text into the app for translation or dictionary lookup, that text is sent to our backend services for processing. See Section 6 for details on AI processing.

Mobile App: Local Device Storage

Some app data — such as search history, preferences, and learning state — may be stored locally on your device. See Section 7 for details.

Mobile App: Crash Reports and Diagnostics

We may use Sentry for crash and error reporting. If enabled, Sentry may collect diagnostic information such as device type, operating system version, app state at the time of a crash, and error logs. This helps us identify and fix problems.

Mobile App: Sessions

You can use the main app without creating a traditional account. The app may create an anonymous session (via Supabase) to access backend functionality. This session does not require you to provide personal information such as a name or email address.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

• To provide translations, dictionary explanations, and other core app functionality
• To maintain, improve, and develop the app and website
• To respond to support requests and inquiries
• To send you updates about Slangua (if you signed up for our mailing list)
• To detect, debug, and fix crashes, errors, or abuse
• To analyze website traffic and app usage patterns

4. Data We Do Not Sell

We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

5. Your Rights (GDPR)

If you are in the European Union or European Economic Area, you have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Request correction or deletion of your data
• Withdraw consent for data processing
• Object to processing of your data
• Request data portability

6. AI Processing

Text you submit for translation or dictionary lookup may be sent to third-party AI providers (currently Anthropic/Claude) to generate translations, explanations, and cultural context. These providers process your input to return results and are subject to their own privacy policies.

Please avoid submitting highly sensitive personal information (such as passwords, financial details, or medical records) through the translation or lookup features.

7. Local Storage

The Slangua app may store data locally on your device, including search history, preferences, and learning state. This data stays on your device unless you choose to sync it or it is sent to backend services as part of app functionality.

You can clear locally stored app data at any time through your device settings or by uninstalling the app. In future versions, some locally stored data may be synced to backend services to enable features like cross-device access.

8. Cookies and Website Analytics

On our website, we use cookies only with your explicit consent. If you accept cookies, we use:

• Google Analytics cookies — to analyze site traffic
• Consent cookie — to remember your cookie preference

You can withdraw your consent at any time by clearing your browser cookies and revisiting the site. No personally identifiable information is collected through website analytics.

9. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate the Slangua website and app:

• Supabase — Backend infrastructure, authentication, and API services for the mobile app (Privacy Policy)
• Anthropic (Claude) — AI-powered translation and explanation generation (Privacy Policy)
• Sentry — Crash and error reporting, if enabled (Privacy Policy)
• PostHog — Product analytics, if enabled (Privacy Policy)
• Kit (ConvertKit) — Email marketing platform (Privacy Policy)
• Google Analytics — Website analytics (Privacy Policy)
• Cloudflare Turnstile — Bot protection for website form submissions. Collects technical data (IP address, browser info) to verify human visitors. (Privacy Policy)
• Netlify — Website hosting (Privacy Policy)

10. Data Retention

• Your email address is retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion.
• Website analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics' default retention settings (14 months).
• App data stored locally on your device remains there until you clear it or uninstall the app.
• Backend logs and operational data may be retained as needed for security, debugging, and service operation.

11. Data Deletion

You can request deletion of your data at any time by emailing support@slangua.com with the subject line "Delete my Slangua data". We will process your request and confirm once complete.

To delete locally stored app data, you can clear the app's data through your device settings or uninstall the app.

12. Children's Privacy

Slangua is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@slangua.com so we can take appropriate action.

13. International Data Processing

Your data may be processed outside of your country of residence by our third-party service providers. These providers may operate in countries with different data protection laws than your own. By using Slangua, you acknowledge that your data may be transferred to and processed in such locations.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the website or app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
